Innovative 3K and 2K molding solutions engineered to enhance structural integrity, sealing, and premium aesthetics.
In the highly competitive market of consumer electronics and smart devices, the demand for compact, durable, and aesthetically superior products has reached unprecedented heights. Traditional single-material manufacturing methods are no longer sufficient to meet these modern engineering challenges. This is where 3K injection moulding (three-shot / triple-injection molding) comes into play as a transformative manufacturing technology.
3K injection moulding allows designers to combine three distinct plastics, elastomers, or colors into a single integrated component during a single molding cycle. This process eliminates post-molding assembly steps, dramatically reduces labor costs, and ensures an airtight, waterproof seal that is critical for modern IoT devices and wearable tech.
"By integrating rigid polymers, soft tactile rubbers, and transparent light-guiding resins, 3K molding delivers unmatched design freedom and functional integration."
The global smart device market is moving toward extreme miniaturization and high functional density. From smart rings and fitness trackers to complex smart home hubs, products must be lightweight yet robust enough to withstand daily wear and tear.
By using 3K molding, engineers can design ultra-thin walls and co-molded internal ribs. This maintains structural rigidity while shedding unnecessary weight, which is a key performance metric for modern wearable devices.
The integration of Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) or Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) with rigid engineering plastics (like PC, ABS, or PA) creates molecular-level bonding. This provides permanent hermetic sealing against water, sweat, and dust ingress.
Consumer electronics are lifestyle statements. 3K moulding enables the simultaneous use of high-gloss finishes, matte-textured grippy surfaces, and colored accents, creating a premium tactile experience that boosts brand value.
Hongrita operates world-class facilities strategically positioned to serve the global consumer electronics and smart device industries.
Focusing on the 3C and intelligent technology components business, overseas commercial mold business, and in-house use molds.
Serving as Hongrita's hub for innovation R&D, engineering, major projects and production; and the proving grounds of change management, new technology applications and intelligent manufacturing.
Developing tooling and molding business in Southeast Asia; and serving as proving grounds of Hongrita's global expansion plan and training base for the overseas team.
In smartwatches and VR headsets, 3K injection moulding is used to fuse a rigid structural frame (PC/ABS), a soft skin-contact cushion (LSR), and a semi-transparent light pipe (PMMA) for LED status indicators. This complex integration is molded in a single, automated step, ensuring perfect alignment and zero cosmetic gaps.
The versatility of triple-shot molding opens up a vast array of high-value applications across the modern consumer tech spectrum:
Wearables demand biocompatible materials, extreme water resistance, and ergonomic comfort. 3K molding enables the bonding of medical-grade Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) directly onto rigid polycarbonate frames, with integrated colored accent rings for premium aesthetics.
Smart speakers and smart locks require acoustic damping, light-blocking structures, and soft touch buttons. 3K moulding permits the combination of an acoustic-dampening elastomer, a light-blocking dark polymer, and a translucent material for capacitive touch button illumination.
For action cameras and outdoor GPS units, drop protection and waterproof seals are vital. A 3K process bonds a tough ABS core with a shock-absorbing TPU outer bumper and a molded-in-place sealing gasket, achieving ruggedized IP68 protection without manual assembly.
Successful 3K injection molding requires deep expertise in mold design, material compatibility, and precision manufacturing control. Hongrita's engineering team utilizes advanced Moldflow simulations to optimize the process before steel is cut.
Not all plastics bond naturally. We select matching polymer pairs (such as PC to TPU or PA to LSR) and utilize chemical bonding agents or mechanical interlocking features to guarantee that the three materials never delaminate under stress.
Each of the three materials has its own shrinkage rate. Managing these variations requires precise gate positioning and cooling channel layout design to prevent warping, sink marks, or cosmetic blemishes on critical outer surfaces.
Our state-of-the-art multi-shot machines feature high-speed rotary tables and core-back mechanisms. This allows the part to be rotated precisely between the three injection units, maintaining tight tolerances within microns.
Hongrita adheres to the highest global standards for quality, environmental management, and information security.

From a modest workshop to a global leader in multi-material and high-precision molding technology.
After completing the apprentice program, Mr. Felix Choi, the founder of Hongrita, borrowed money and invested in the first milling machine in June 1988. He rented a corner in a friend's factory and established Hongrita Mould Engineering Company, specializing in mold and hardware parts processing. Mr. Choi’s humble, diligent, and progressive entrepreneurial spirit attracted a group of like-minded partners. With the collaborative efforts of the core team and their excellent skills, the company focused on the design and production of complete molds, establishing a reputation for manufacturing precision plastic molds.
In 1993, riding the wave of national reform and opening up, Hongrita established its first base in Longgang District, Shenzhen, and expanded its business to include plastic moulding and secondary processing. After 10 years of growth, the core team believed that it was necessary to build a unique and differentiated competitive advantage in order to be invincible. In 2003, the company began research and development of multi-material/ multi-component moulding technology and moulding process, and in 2012, Hongrita took the lead in making breakthroughs in liquid silicone rubber (LSR) mould and moulding technology, becoming a benchmark in the industry. By leveraging innovative technologies such as multi-material and LSR, Hongrita has successfully attracted more quality customers by solving customers' product pain points and jointly adding value to development ideas.
In order to expand and strengthen its business, Hongrita established operational bases in Cuiheng New District, Zhongshan City and Penang State, Malaysia in 2015 and 2019, and the management initiated an all-round upgrading and transformation in 2018, formulated a medium- and long-term development plan and ESG sustainable development strategy to fully cultivate a win-win culture. Now, Hongrita is moving towards the goal of building a world-class lighthouse factory by upgrading digital intelligence, AI application, OKR and other activities to improve management effectiveness and per capita efficiency.
